I’ve been married for just over a year and every time I see certain family members and friends I always get comments like – “Your skin is glowing. Do we have a little one on the way?” or “I love your hair. It’s growing so fast. You know little boys usually make your hair grow…hint, hint.”
Clearly, I am sharing this because I am not pregnant, but I am going to tell you what I have been doing to have glowing skin and growing hair!
I used many of these methods for my wedding day even though I had a little bit of makeup added with a natural look.
We have been (and are still in the process of) switching our house to a natural household. I have some simple tips on where to get started. This will help detoxify your body and your house.
Disclaimer: Please know that I am no expert, but I have done some research and so should you. Research, try it and see what you think.
DETOXIFY YOUR BODY
These are tips on how to start implementing a switch in your habits. Let’s start with what we are eating and drinking.
1. Infused waters
Cut back on sugary drinks/sodas and switch to infused waters. They are simple to make and have so many health benefits depending on which one you make. One of my favorites for clear skin has water, cucumbers, lemons and mint leaves. There are so many to test out you will find one you love too!
2. Eat and Drink you water
I will be the first to tell you drinking water can get pretty boring. With infused waters you get some nice options, but you can also eat your water. Add foods to your diet that have a high percentage of water. Options include watermelon, cabbage, cucumbers, pineapples, apricots, spinach, tomatoes, spinach and so on. You’ve got options here!
3. Cut out added sugar
It’s an addiction and it will be hard to cut out. You may experience headaches and other withdrawal symptoms. Start by cutting back on your added sugar intake. Yes, different types of sugars may taste the same, but they don’t treat your body the same. Sugars from fruits and vegetables are simple sugars and come with nutrients you don’t find in your sugar sweets and snacks. You will notice your energy pick up, your skin clear up and your cavities shut up when you start cutting out added sugars. Not to mention you will notice a slimmer tummy and who doesn’t want a slimmer tummy?
Now, let’s talk about what you are applying to your hair, skin and teeth.
1. Coconut Oil
It works wonders on my skin and my mouth. This is like an all-purpose product for your body, hair and mouth. You can cook with it, you can swish with it and you can moisturize your hair, nails and body with it. Don’t know what swishing is? Have you heard of oil pulling? It’s not a new technique, it’s just recently become popular. You can use other oils, but my favorite is unrefined coconut oil (or it may say extra virgin coconut oil.) You take a spoonful of coconut oil and swich (not gargle) it back and forth for 15-20 minutes. It will take some time to get there, but I just hope in the shower while I swish. DO NOT SPIT DOWN THE SINK OR IN THE TOILET. You must dispose of in the trash or it will solidify in your pipes. Oil pulling has saved me from getting sick and it has made for a fresh mouth and cleared up sensitive teeth.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
People, please do not drink this without adding it to at least a glass of water. Also, make sure it has the mother. I purchase BRAGG Organic ACV with the mother. ACV can be used in your hair, as spot treatment for pimples, as a mouth rinse, and in tea or water for weight loss and more.
3. Witch Hazel
Have you ever walked outside and notice how much pollen was covering your car? Did you ever think how that was affecting your skin? Pollen is not friendly to my skin or my allergies. Witch hazel is awesome for eczema, rashes, skin burns, insect bites, after shave and so on. After I cleanse my face, I use T.N. Dickenson’s witch hazel before I apply my moisturizer to make sure my skin has the best clean. Recently, I started using Rose Petal witch hazel from Thayers.
4. Lemon and Honey
Honey, if you don’t know about it you need to ask somebody. Cut a lemon in half and drop some honey on it. Use the lemon like a face sponge and massage the lemon and honey onto your face. Let sit for about 5 minutes and rinse off. I use witch hazel after the rinse and apply my favorite moisturizer.
Whenever I have a pimple and need a spot treatment I’ll go with ACV or lemon and honey. After rinsing I will wipe down with witch hazel and then massage my face with ice cubes for 4 minutes. Your face will go numb. Gently pat dry and when the feeling returns apply moisturizer.
6. WARNING LADIES ONLY- Pads
Make the switch to a natural 100% cotton pad. My cramps became less of an issue, my cycle went from 7 days to 4 days and I noticed other symptoms that I won’t share here subsided.
These a just a few tips I suggest for you to get started on your detoxification.
DETOXIFY YOUR HOME
Some of us are multitaskers and some of us aren’t. If you are a multitasker, then you can make these changes as you are implementing the tips from how to start detoxifying your body that you just read above.
I started removing chemicals from our house because with sensitive skin, I couldn’t figure out what was irritating me. I started with our hand soaps.
1. Mrs. Meyers
My favorite is Mrs. Meyers, but it can get a little pricey. I love that they list all of their products, don’t test on animals and make eco-sensitive decisions about how they produce their products.
Then I realized, not only do they make soap, but they make cleaning supplies. I slowly started replacing our products as they ran out.
2. Dr. Bronner’s
Dr. Bronner’s is another favorite. I love products that are multipurpose. I don’t want to fill my cabinets and closets with single use products if I don’t have to so when I found out all the ways I could use Dr. Bronner’s I was sold. When you see the bottle and all the words written on it you will understand all the ways you can use it.
3. Essential Oils
I also stopped using air fresheners and started using essential oils. I added them to my floors after I mopped. I made a spray mixing the essential oil with water in a fingertip spray bottle.
Save Money While Living A Healthier Life
Natural products can start increasing the bill when you go to the store. However, I have found some sweet deals lately.
Grove Collaborative has a promotion going on until August 28, 2018. This promotion allows you to get 5 Mrs. Meyer’s products with your $20 purchase for no additional cost. If you’re ready to get started, check out what they have to offer here.
Need more details? I’m with you. I wanted to know the catch before I decided to make my purchase.
It is not just a free gift. It is 5 gifts with a $20 purchase for no additional charge. I bought items I had already planned to get on my next trip to the store like deodorant and toothpaste so I wasn’t spending unnecessary money.
When I started searching the site, I notice products were already in my cart. I guess these were suggested products. I removed them and added the items I wanted to my cart. Before checking out, I noticed there was a note at the bottom that said something along the lines of this includes a 60-day free shipping promotion as well. If you’re not interested after the trial, you have the opportunity to cancel. If you are interested, then there is a $20 yearly fee.
In just a couple days my products arrived, full sized and with no additional cost as promised. Products pictured below. I was too excited to record an un-boxing.
The items I purchased from Grove Collaborative and the 5 free gifts from Mrs. Meyers.
A site that provides natural products I can order makes it easy for me to do my research and pick what I want to test next. I love this idea and am just fine with the fine print so I made my purchase. They could cut back on the emails. It is nice to be notified of each step for my products arrival and offered a personal guide to answer questions, but I already get enough emails. My suggestion to you is to read everything. Hopefully you have the amazing experience I did![/et_pb_text]
